Exciting News!

I'm very excited to be joining the Richmond Hill Primary staff. It is going to be a very exciting year in first grade. I hope you will keep up with us and check our page often!

Week of March 9th

We've had a busy week.  We've been working on counting combinations of coins, reviewing telling time and writing persuasive papers.  We are learning about Georgia's Five regions and even explored some habitat from our region, The Coastal Plains.  The students enjoyed watching the crabs in their natural habitat and learned why our region has so much land, but because of the wet lands, doesn't have as much developed land as other regions.

We've had a great start to our year! I hope you will stop by often and check in on us, we have a lot going on in 2nd grade!

Science is one of our favorite subjects.  We've been studying Matter and the students performed a science experiement in which they used several different solids (sugar, salt, flour and baking soda) and then added vinegar to see the reaction.  The students were amazed at what happened to the baking soda when they added vinegar.  Many of them saw the relationship between the soda and vinegar and realized they were seeing a chemical reaction that caused a gas.  It was a great experiement!

We have been very busy lately.  The kids are working hard to show understanding of numbers and

place value.  They have used flats, rods and units as well as "food" to show understanding of place value.  Of course the food was their favorite.
